Welcome To Paradigm And Our Communities . . .
What Is Special Care?
Special Care is multifaceted and may be best described by the definition developed by the Council on Clinical Affairs:
Special health care needs include any physical, developmental, mental, sensory, behavioral, cognitive, or emotional impairment or limiting condition that requires medical management, health care intervention, and/or use of specialized services or programs. The condition may be congenital, developmental, or acquired through disease, trauma, or environmental cause and may impose limitations in performing daily self-maintenance activities or substantial limitations in a major life activity. Health care for individuals with special needs requires specialized knowledge, as well as increased awareness and attention, adaptation, and accommodative measures beyond what are considered routine.
Paradigm’s Rock Point Nursing Center has a special care unit within our healthcare facility that is custom-designed, staffed, and equipped to care for 16 women and 16 men, separated by sex in a secure unit for people with these specific health conditions. They are located in a structured environment space and physically separated from other patient populations with a focus on resident safety. For example, since Geriatric Psychiatric (Dementia, Alzheimer’s or age related mental health) patients have the potential to wander away from the community, these units have custom equipment and technology, such as special door locks, etc. to ensure residents are not put in danger by wandering or falls.
